CICCC Update—8 September 2011 Meeting
Current storage capacity at Terminals Coode Island facility
Carlo Fasolino, the Terminals Victorian Manager, provided information to the Committee on the capacity of the Coode Island facility, as detailed in the table below.

Shelter-in-Place: Community Emergency Response Information
On 21 August 2011, on the 20th anniversary of the Coode Island fire, the Emergency Services held a launch of their Shelter-in-place program at Coode Island. Brochures and other information on Shelter-in-place can be found on the MFB web site at http://www.mfb.vic.gov.au/News/Publications/Reports/Shelter-in-Place-decision-making.html
The brochures set out three steps to take in a chemical emergency or large fire. These are:
- Shelter: Go inside immediately, take family and pets with you, avoid phone use: Emergency Services may need to contact you.
- Shut Close the external doors and windows, seal gaps with blankets, towels or duct tape. Turn off heaters, air conditioners and exhaust fans. Close fireplace dampers.
- Listen Listen to the radio for further information and additional instructions (local ABC or any commercial radio station, turn on television for media messages, or visit http://www.mfb.vic.gov.au or http://www.cfa.vic.gov.au. Wait for “all clear” message, then open doors and windows to ventilate building. Go outside.
Theo Pykoulas from Maribyrnong City Council further advised the committee of a proposed web site on which MFB will list emergency warnings, and which will have a facility for individuals to subscribe to a free email advice on new emergency warnings. Companies and Councils will also be able to have links to the web site, where they can provide further safety information.
Next meeting of the CICCC
The next meeting of the CICCC will be held on Thursday 8 December 2011 at the Maribyrnong Town Hall on the corner of Hyde and Napier Streets, Footscray at 6.30 pm. Any interested member of the community is welcome to attend the CICCC meetings. The Fire Services Commissioner, Craig Lapsley, will make a presentation to the meeting and take questions.
