UPDATE

CICCC Update—21 August 2018 Meeting

Presentation by Michael Eather, Manager Outreach, Major Hazards Program and System Safety, WorkSafe

Michael Eather provided a wide ranging discussion of the new WorkSafe structure and strategy aimed at using data to make better decisions, and to developing a prevention-led approach focussed on the needs of workers and employers.

WorkSafe have now moved some of their departments to a new office complex in Geelong. About 200 staff are still in Melbourne, with some 800 staff in Geelong. There are regional offices in Mulgrave, Dandenong, Essendon, Wangaratta, Traralgon, Ballarat, Bendigo and Mildura.

Phil Jones supported the thrust of the new approach, stating that Terminals Pty Ltd had found that WorkSafe has made themselves more open, with a problem-solving approach. Michael added that WorkSafe’s strategy update involves capturing, analyzing and sharing relevant information to decision making; providing guidance and promoting learning.

The Chair thanked Michael for his excellent presentation.

WorkSafe audit

Phil advised that all the outstanding WorkSafe improvement notices have been approved and approved and signed off by WorkSafe.

Incident reporting in the three-monthly report to the CICCC

The reporting of incidents through the Integrum system continues, with minor tweaking of the presentation to the Committee. Members are becoming more familiar with the reporting format, which tracks every management action associated with each incident, and keeps the Actions “live” until the required action is complete. While the information is quite detailed, it does provide a logical approach to monitoring each incident and each associated action required.

Next meeting of the CICCC

The next meeting will be held at the Terminals Site Office at McKenzie Road, Coode Island, on Tuesday 20 November 2018 at 3pm.
